Driving through Hai Van pass
The most scenic hillside roads in Vietnam are where you can overlook the mountain, sky, and ocean. This is a pass just north of Da Nang with recent historic significance. Hai Van Pass is mostly for tourists since the main traffic runs through a tunnel at the base of the mountain. The road is well maintained and ascends from the coast to above a thousand meters. On the top of the mountain, there are remnants of fortifications and an excellent view.

Driving along it, you’ll be treated to a panoramic view of Lang Co Bay and Da Nang city from above. Famous stopping points include Hai Van Gate (the ancient gate on the mountain peak) and Turtle Rock (a cliff with a stunning view of the sea). Why Son Tra Peninsula is Called “Monkey Mountain”

Son Tra Peninsula got its nickname “Monkey Mountain” during the American War when soldiers spotted rare red-shanked douc langurs in the forest. These endangered primates with distinctive colorful fur still inhabit the area today. The Vietnamese government protects these animals and their habitat. Visitors might see these shy creatures early morning or late afternoon. They’re among the world’s most beautiful monkeys, with maroon legs, white arms, and golden faces.

  • Distance Hue Hoi An is 135 km and it takes 4-5 hours for the whole trip (option 1), the best time for departure is around 8h30 am.

  • From Hue Center to Lap An Lagoon is about 90 minutes of drive, you can start at 10h30 and arrive at this place at lunchtime
  • Lang Co beach is also a good place for seafood and it is close to Lap An Lagoon about 5 minutes driving. If you want go to beach, please request ib booking
