Hue airport is about 15 km from Hue city center. Now, it only serves domestic flights from Sai Gon, Ha Noi and Da Lat each day.

The journey from Hue airport to city is around thirty minutes and fixed price car transfer are approximately 250,000 – 350,000 vnd.

Hue airport also offers shuttle bus service to cover the route and around 60,000 VND per person and you must take a take from drop off place to your hotel by taxi.

Da Nang airport is three hours from Hue making it an alternate option for those wanting to combine a visit Hoi An or Da Nang with travel from Hue to Hoi An and cross the scenic Hai Van Pass. You can stay 1 day in Hoi An then land from Da Nang to Sai Gon or Ha Noi.

  • Rail ways

Hue city center lies close to half way between Hanoi and Saigon along the North – South route. The Hue train station is 10 minutes from amost of hotel in Hue.

You can access to Hue city from Ha Noi, Ninh Binh, Dong Hoi station (from the north) and from Sai Gon, Nha Trang, Da Nang station (from the south)

  • Road

Traveler usually stop in Hue city before or after Hoi An depending on that you are travelling from the north (Hanoi) or south (Sai Gon).

The road trip from Hue to Hoi An is around 3 hours if you across the Hai Van tunnel route. If you want to take scenic route Hoi An from Hue across the Hai Van Pass, add another 45 – 60 minutes, especially you will make more photo stops enroute.

Some travelers visit Hue as a day trip from Da Nang or Hoi An. They try it seem to return to Da Nang/ Hoi An with short time. I think that Hue deserves some days rather than a few hours.

Hue is also main of departure for travel into or from southern Laos. It’s takes around 12 hours from Hue to Savannakhet in Laos by bus. The buses to Laos can be arranged at local bus in Hue and Hoi An.
