Hue Private Guided Tour Itinerary

Your guide and driver meet you at your hotel in central Hue in the morning. The tour normally runs for a full sightseeing day. The order of visits may be adjusted slightly for traffic, monument opening hours and your choice of optional activities.

1. Thien Mu Pagoda

Begin beside the Perfume River at Hue’s best-known pagoda. Walk through the temple grounds, see the seven-storey Phuoc Duyen Tower and enjoy the river view from the hill. Rather than visiting independently, you have your guide with you to explain the history of the pagoda, Buddhist traditions and the details you see around the complex.

2. Hue Imperial City

Continue to the former political and ceremonial centre of the Nguyen Dynasty. Enter through the monumental gates and explore selected courtyards, halls, temples and palace areas at a comfortable pace. Your guide explains how the Imperial City was organised, how the royal court functioned and how the buildings were used, helping the site feel like a connected story rather than a collection of monuments.

3. Optional Paper-Flower Making inside the Imperial City

If you would like a creative break during your Imperial City visit, you can choose an optional paper-flower making experience offered daily to visitors. Watch how a flower is made, then follow the demonstration to shape colourful paper petals and assemble your own flower. You can take home the paper flower you made as a souvenir of Hue. Your guide can assist with the instructions. This activity is not included in the standard tour price; request it when booking, and pay any activity fee separately. The activity may be shared with other visitors, while your guide and vehicle remain private to your party.

4. Taste Hue’s Local Specialties at Lunch

After exploring the Imperial City, enjoy a lunch that introduces Hue’s local food traditions. The city’s specialties are known for delicate steamed cakes, savoury dumplings, crispy pancakes and fragrant noodle soup. Take time to enjoy the flavours of Hue before travelling to the royal tombs in the afternoon.

• Bánh Bèo – Steamed rice cakes topped with shrimp flakes.
• Bánh Nậm – Delicate flat rice dumplings steamed in banana leaves.
• Bánh Lọc – Chewy tapioca dumplings filled with shrimp and pork.
• Gỏi Cuốn Tôm Thịt – Fresh rice-paper rolls with shrimp and pork.
• Nem Rán – Golden, crispy fried spring rolls.
• Bánh Khoái – Hue-style crispy pancake with shrimp, pork and bean sprouts.
• Nem Lụi – Grilled pork on fragrant lemongrass skewers.
• Bún Bò Huế – Hue-style beef noodle soup in a savoury broth.
• Crêpe Chuối – Banana crêpe drizzled with chocolate.

Lunch is included in your guided tour. The final selection and serving arrangement are confirmed with your booking. Vegetarian alternatives are available on request. Please let us know in advance about any allergies, special diets or other dietary requirements; substitutions can be arranged as confirmed. Drinks not expressly listed are excluded.

5. Khai Dinh Tomb

After lunch, travel to the hillside mausoleum of Emperor Khai Dinh. The compact complex is known for its dramatic staircase, stone courtyards and richly decorated interior combining Vietnamese and European influences. Your guide points out the architectural contrasts and decorative details and explains how this tomb differs from the more traditional royal complexes around Hue.

6. Tu Duc Tomb

Continue to the spacious garden complex associated with Emperor Tu Duc. Lakes, pavilions, pine trees and temple areas create a very different atmosphere from Khai Dinh. Walk through the landscaped grounds with your guide, who connects the architecture and scenery with the emperor’s life and helps you compare the two royal tombs visited during the day.

7. Thuy Xuan Incense Village

Finish with a short stop at Thuy Xuan, known for colourful incense displays and local craft shops. This is a convenient place for photographs and a brief look at traditional incense making. Purchases are optional. It is a craft and photography stop, not a second workshop promised as part of the tour. At the end of the sightseeing day, your private vehicle returns you to your hotel in central Hue.
