From Da Nang to hoi An, it’s a short distance of 30 km ~ 18,6 miles and it takes us about 45 mins to 1 hour to transfer between two cities.

If you are already in Da Nang center or the International Airport, don’t hesitate to also go to Hoi An for a few days – that is our top recommended tourist city in the center of Vietnam. For each vehicle that we listed as below, you would go on either 1 in 4 following routes:

  1. Along the beach: follow Truong Sa Street (near Da Nang beach and visit Marble Moutain) to Vo Nguyen Giap / Lac Long Quan and turn to Hoi An City.
  2. Along the beach: from Danang center – go along Le Van Hien street, then visit Marble Mountain follow the road of Da Nang – Tran Dai Nghia – Hoi An province, about 30km to Hoi An.
  3. Along Da nang road the follow Nguyen Huu Tho – Vo Chi Cong street – Tran Dai Nghia – Dien Nam – Nguyen Tat Thanh – Hoi An ancient town
  4. Along highway 1 from Danang city – Vinh Dien – Le Quy Don – Hung Vuong (near Thanh Ha ceramic village) – Hoi An.

Here are 5 common ways to reach the ancient town of Hoi An city from Da Nang. Based on their pros and cons, you can decide on the most suitable means of transportation for your trip.

1. Da Nang to Hoi An by Private Car

► Booking: You can ask your hotel or the hotel that you book in Hoi An to find you a car rental service, of course, if you contact directly Hoi An private car company, the rate is cheaper. Depend on your group size and your budget, you can choose to rent a sedan (4 seat car), an SUV (7 seat car), or a Van (for a big group of 12 people)

Private Car transfer from Da Nang to Hoi An

► Duration: A private car will probably take you from Da Nang to hoi An in only 45 mins at most or more if you want to stop en route for visiting as we mention above (My Khe Beach, Marble Mountain). Just give the driver the address of your hotel in Danang, they will surely be able to find it right away, for convenience, give him your contact and he can call you.
We recommend booking a car with English speaking driver, they may be not good as a tour guide, but he can help you during the trip.

Vehicle SEDAN

Max 5 people
Max 12 people
Hue private car transfer
Da Nang to Hoi An 11 USD
250.000 vnd
15 USD
20 USD
Price quoted per car, not per person.

► Pros and cons: Private car is the number one option to get from Da Nang to Hoi An since it’s the most convenient and the fastest, also you can stop anywhere you like on the way, maybe for swimming in My Khe beach, taking photos in Marble Mountain, for a drink coffee or lunch. Although this is the most expensive option, sharing the cost with other people actually makes renting a private car worth it. Value for money.

>> Recommended: Car transfer from Da Nang to Hoi An

2. Grab Bike or Grab Car

► Booking: All you need to do is to download the app Grab or Go Jet on your phone and book a motorbike or a car.

► Duration: Just like the private car, a GrabCar will take you to Hoi An in about 45 mins. A motorbike might take you longer, around 1 hour.

► Cost:
GrabBike: 145.000VND ~ 5 USD
Grab Car: 376.000 d ~ 15 USD (4 seater) – 449.000 d ~ 20 USD (7 seater)

Grad Car or Grab Bike fee – Jun 2021 | From Da Nang airport to Hoi An Ancient town

► Pros and cons: For solo travelers with a single backpack, the motorbike option (GrabBike) is extremely cheap and convenient. but travels with friends, is not a smart option.
For example, 2 bikes for 2 from Da Nang airport to Hoi An historic hotel, cost you 300.000 vnd. it seems more expensive than using a private car and not include insurance
However, these drivers – especially motorbike drivers -can go pretty fast sometimes, so you might want to bring your own helmet because they often only have low-quality helmets for the guests.
We are not recommended if you have big luggage. The rider may be canceled if they see you pack

3. Traditional Taxi

► Booking: If you don’t make a reservation or need a car as soon as possible you can call a traditional taxi instead. Taxis are available everywhere in Da Nang, and the most popular taxi companies that you should call are Mai Linh taxi, Vina Sun, Tien Sa, Vang Taxi.

Transfer between Da Nang to Hoi An by taxi

Duration: around 1 hour

Cost: around 350.000VND – 400.000VND (USD $15.00 to $18.00).

► Pros and cons: Traditional taxi is almost like renting a private car, so you can place stuff on the car, and the duration is short. However, you can not be able to stop taking photos, because of the taxi fee cost by distance, so it is a little bit higher than a private car, and some taxi drivers may go around to get more money from you. It is discomfort in person when we always see the speedometer

4. Public Bus

► Old bus: You can take bus number 1 which will take you directly from Da Nang and Hoi An, or the other way around. The bus departs every 30 minutes, starting from 5:30 AM to 6 PM every day. Yes, it is our suggestion in the article for a long time ago.

From Oct 2020, this bus does not go between Hoi An and Da Nang, it is stopped because of too old vehicles and no customers. You will catch 2 bus lines, from Hoi An to Danang outside the station, then catch another bus to go to Danang center.

Bus line: Hoi An station – Viet Han college (Trần Đại Nghĩa Str) – Hoi An station

Hoi An Bus

► New bus: today, you can use other buses to go around Da Nang city

Da Nang city bus

► Duration: about 1:30 ~ 2 hours/ trip depend on time

► Price without big luggage: 18.000 d/ person but in the fact, the forgeiner must pay 30.000 d/ ticket. If you have big luggage cost 50.000 vnd.

Tips: the price is often printed on the window of the bus, but the foreigner must pay that price to make sure that you arrive at Hoi An center, not halfway, and continue to walk.

Da Nang new city bus

► Pros and cons: This is the cheapest way to get from Da Nang to hoi An, and the duration is not too long, we can accept if you are not rush. However, you won’t have much space to store your stuff since there might be many people on the bus (but there might be very few people).
There’s no online ticket available for buses in Vietnam.
Another downside of taking the public bus is that the bus stop is about two miles from Da Nang airport, so you will need to take a taxi there anyway.
We do not recommend catch a bus to go to the airport.

5. Rent a Motorbike

► Booking: You can easily rent a motorbike in Da Nang. 2 motorbike rental services that you can reliably book are:

  • Truong Dat motorbike rental: +84 969 722 744
  • Lê Trường motorbike rental: +84 981 331 331
  • Da nang easy rider
Easily rent a motorbike in Da Nang at a small cost

► Duration: up to you

► Cost: about 100.000 – 150.000 VND/day, and you can get a discount if you rent it for a longer period.

► Pros and cons: Travelling by motorbike is the best way to fully experience the beautiful coastline from Da Nang to Hoi An ancient, you can visit Marble Mountain, Monkey mountain on the East, and it’s also convenient. However, renting a motorbike will require you to put in a deposit (money or your luggage) and your passport card to ensure, so you should prepare a notarized copy of your passport in advance.
Also, the traffic in Vietnam may not be the same as in your country, it is a crazed experience if this is the first time traveling to Vietnam. It could be dangerous, so don’t try if you are not an experienced driver.

Above are the best 5 ways to travel from Da Nang to hoi An. We hope to have informed you sufficiently and hope that you will be able to find the most suitable means of travel for your trip. Finally, have a nice time in Vietnam!

Cam Thanh Water Coconut Forest- Hoi An

Hoi An not only offers tourists the charming beauty of the ancient town but also helps them emerge into the daily life of local farmers in rural villages around. Recently, Cam Thanh village has been a favorite spot for visitors because of its vast and beautiful water coconut palm forest. Earlier, it was used to be a base for the army and people of Hoi An in the two wars against the French and the American.

As a mangrove forest near the estuary of Cua Dai River, it has many types of seafood such as fishes, crabs, and shrimps. If taking a trip to the forest in the eighth month of the lunar calendar, you can pick ripe coconuts and enjoy them with their partners. After that, you can visit a small village situated in the forest. The villagers use coconut trees as materials for building houses and making tools. Besides, they can earn more money by selling products made from coconuts.Boat ride in Water-coconut Cam Thanh Village

How to get to Cam Thanh Water-coconut village?

It is located about 5 km from the southeast of the ancient town in the Hamlet 2 and 3 of Cam Thanh Commune.

  • By boat: You can take a boat along Thu Bon River to reach the village from Bach Dang Wharf or from wharves on Hoai River.
  • By taxi or private car transfer: It is convenient and cheap to take a taxi if you travel in a group. However, you should consider taking xe om to save money if you travel alone.
  • By bike or motorbike: You are recommended to rent a bike/motorbike to ride to the village. It is not difficult to find the way from the town center, but if you can’t, don’t mind asking local people for directions because people are very friendly and willing to give you specific instructions.Bike tour around Hoi An

What to do in Cam Thanh Village?

If you go with a group of friends, you can take a boat on the canal to enjoy the fresh nature and fun activities at a price of 50,000 dongs per person. However, the boat cannot go deeper into the water coconut jungle. Taking a bamboo basket boat is more convenient. The rental price of a boat is 150,000 dong and each can carry two adults and two children into small canals. With them, you can go into small canals, explore and get a spectacular insight into the palm forest.Sunset in coconut water forest hoian

Note: When you are there, many local people will offer you a ride by their bamboo basket boats. Remember that the price is 150,000 dong per boat so you have to bargain if they ask more.

During your trip around the forest, you can explore nature and take part in interesting activities such as catching fishes and trying rowing the unique boat.

After going back to the village, you may learn about the daily life of farmers and fishermen, join traditional singing performances with the villagers, learn how to make products from coconut leaves and enjoy tasting the local food.

Tips for your trip

You should visit the water coconut forest after 4 p.m. because it is not too hot at that time and you can see the sunset in the river that is very stunning and peaceful. Moreover, people who ride tourists on bamboo basket boats will not try to finish the tour soon because this is the last one in the day. If you are here in the morning, your tour will last only about 30 minutes and you cannot discover any corners of the forest.

If arriving at the village in the morning, you can order lunch at the houses of the villagers. All you need to do is to inform them about the number of people and the price of each portion. If not, you can have lunch at Rung Dua Restaurant near the wharf.
However, the price here is more expensive.Bay Mau coconut water

Visiting Cam Thanh will be an unforgettable experience for people who love traveling. Put it on your to-do list in Hoi An or you will regret not making the trip to the village.

  1. 3 dragons restaurant bar

Address: 51 Phan Boi Chau, Cam Châu, Hoi An, Quang Nam

Being right in the ancient of Hoi An, beside the river, you can easily find out the bar without making any effort. Even it looks small, but this surely the best choice once you don’t have much time in town. Just walk and you would be there

Firstly it surprised me because of its look. Totally not look like a bar but any lovely shop in Hoi An. The only thing you can be sure the place for football fan is by the World Cup poster.

It looks bigger inside the bar than I think. They provided two big LCD screens to make it easier watching the football match when there are a lot of guesses.

One more surprising here, the bar located right beside the river. Once I found out this, I can be sure this surely my perfect place in Hoi An to hide away the heat of the tropical sun and World Cup atmosphere but can still watch my favorite sport with many friends.

A square which is opposite Hoi An church. They do have a big screen there. Don’t forget your beer.

  1. The Shamrock Hoi An

Address: 21 Nguyen Phuc Chu, Hoi An, Quang Nam

I must say, you can’t find out any other bar that looks more “Hoi An” than this pub. It’s hard to believe that this lovely old building can be a hanging spot to watch the modern sports game like football.

From outside, Shamrock looks cool with traditional lantern decoration. But inside is modernly equipped with four big screens for you to feel comfortable to watch your football with a group of friend.

There is live music every day in Shamrock. Enjoy your cold beer by the riverside under the lantern of Hoi An surely the nicest way to enjoy your trip. But once the World Cup match starts, everybody just concentrates to the screen instead.

The bar servers 24 hours per day so feel free to stay all night to have fun. I hope you don’t have any trouble with the Vietnamese language while watching this biggest sports competition in the world in Hoi An.

Above are some recommended places for your when the final World Cup Match is coming. I will be back with next articles about beautiful Vietnam. Hope you to have a nice holiday.
