The Hai Van pass is a beautiful description of the drive from Hue to Hoi An. You are in awe of incredible views, miles of ocean, the stunning beaches, and a maze of mountain twisty roads. The route Hue to Hoi An is one of the many highlights of your week on the Central Coast of Vietnam. We arrange a private car with a driver to pick up you from the hotel in Hue – My Son – Hoi An with lots of scenic stops along the way. Now let’s go and imagine what we can do on this trip:

  • Depart from Hue city

Check out your hotel and leave Hue to Hoi An ancient town via My Son Sanctuary. Time departure is flexible, we can begin around 8h30 – 9h00, so you have more time to visit en route.

  • Stop in the Fishing Village in Lap An lagoon

The first stop is a small fishing village in Lang Co town where we watched Vietnamese daily life unfold. Many families call the tiny fishing boats home and spend their days hard at work on the water.

  • Stop in Lang Co Bay

The prospect of a beach stop raised excitement levels and you can’t wait to feel the warm sand between your toes. Lang Co beach is a beautiful introduction to the Vietnam beach scene and you love dipping your toes in the ocean! If you don’t swim, we skip this beach and go direct to Hai Van mountain pass.

  • Driving over Hai Van Pass

The Hai Van pass route was made famous in a Vietnam Top Gear special where it was described as a ‘deserted ribbon of distraction’. You feel how fantastic is when your car drives through the clouds, sometimes you see the ocean at the foot of the mountain. Some remnants of the Vietnam War still stand at the top of the Hai Van Pass.

  • Driving along My Khe beach

Having made it safely through the Hai Van Pass it was time for some city and beach action with a stop at the My Khe Beach in Da Nang before reach to Marble Mountain. You can swim here instead of Lang Co beach.

  • Climbing Marble Mountain

As the cluster of marble and limestone hills came into view we were intrigued by the mountains named after the five elements: metal, water, wood, fire, and earth. We climbed to the top of Thuy Son (Water Mountain), the only accessible mountain, and its reward with old pagoda, caves, and colorful carvings as well as outstanding views of Da Nang city below.

  • Visiting My Son Sanctuary

The main temples in My Son sanctuary worshipped a set of Linga or an image of Siva – a genie who protect the king lineages of Champa. The god who is worshipped here is Bhadresvara, the king who founded the first ruling dynasty of the Amaravati region in the late fourth century.

  • Hoi An arrival

Our driver drops you off at your hotel. You quickly fell in love with the lantern-lined streets crammed full of bicycles, tailors, and souvenir shops candlelit lanterns lit up the river of the ancient town. Finish trip!

Much more than just a driving service! We had a terrific time with Mr. Lan, who took us to see all the major sites in Hue and then drove us to Hoi An by way of My Son. In the car he gave us the history of all the cities and sites we were visiting, brought us to truly excellent places to eat street food specific to the areas we were in, and even brought us to buy coffee and incense when we asked him for the best places to do so. He also gave us recommendations for how to spend our time when he wasn’t driving us. His English is excellent and he’s a joy to be with. We were sad to leave him at the end of the two days! Can’t recommend him more highly.
